A La Monte man is facing multiple felonies after a vehicle pursuit in Pettis County on October 1.

According to a deputy’s report, the pursuit began on Highway 50. It eventually continued onto Main Street Road to Highway 127. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and straight into a steel railing that is placed directly in front of the post office in La Monte. The vehicle slammed head on into the steel railing at an estimated speed of 50 to 55 mph.

The driver then exited the vehicle and ran. Once the deputy caught up, the suspect resisted, which led to the deputy deploying his Taser, which was successful in incapacitating the suspect.

During a search of the suspect, more than $500 in cash and several pills in a clear plastic baggie were located. The pills are believed to be Hydrocodone, extended-release Tylenol and Meloxicam.

Wilbur Barnett has been charged with a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest; and a property-damage misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash or surety.

A Preliminary Hearing in this case is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 10 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
