
Doris Wanda Simmons, 68, of Sweet Springs, MO, died Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia with Rev. Cliff Cato and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in St. Louis, MO. Born June 25, 1952 in Jamestown, MO, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey W. Hutchison and Mary Cartner Hutchison. On October 17, 1987 she married Gale Simmons who survives of the home. Doris’ main occupation in life was being a homemaker for her family, but she also worked many years as a cook, waitress and manager of restaurants and truck stops. Outside of her family, one of her proudest accomplishments was receiving her G.E.D. in her 50’s. She attended Assembly of God Churches throughout her life.
In addition to her husband, Gale; she is survived by her children: Everett Lee Snider (Mickey) of Sedalia, Danny Snider (Nikki) of rural Sweet Springs, Aaron Simmons (Courtney) of Cameron, Doug Simmons of Kansas City, Nate Hawkins of Sedalia and Cassie Dotson of Sweet Springs; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Newell of Gravette, Ark. and Mary Peeples of Sweet Springs; one brother, Jimmy Dale Hutchison of Sweet Springs; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Gladys Ferguson, Marilyn Sue Portwood and Betty Simmons; and one brother, Dorsey T. “Catfish” Hutchison.
