
The Higginsville Police Department reports, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West Broadway on October 31, 2020 in regards to an assault no longer in progress.
When the officer arrived, the calling party stated that she received a call from the victim stating that 56-year-old Rodney Benton and 26-year-old Blake Benton had illegally entered her home and demanded money from the victim. The victim alleges that Blake Benton punched her in the face multiple times, breaking a tooth with one of the blows. The victim told the officer that the two men made the remark that they would be back for their money.
Both men have been charged with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree, and a Class E Felony for Attempt of Stealing – Physical Take. Blake Benton is also charged with a Class E Felony for Assault in the Third Degree, while Rodney Benton is charged with a Misdemeanor for Assault in the Fourth Degree.
Bond for Blake Benton has been set at $150,000 cash or surety. He entered a plea of not guilty during his Arraignment on November 30. His next hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
Rodney Benton entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment on November 3. His bond was originally set at $100,000 but was amended to $50,000 cash or surety, with 10-percent allowed. He posted the 10-percent of the $50,000 bond on November 20. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
