The Marshall City Council considered the first reading of three ordinances involving limiting parking to one side of certain portions of city streets during its meeting on Monday, December 7.

The council first considered prohibiting parking on the east side of South Miami Avenue from West Vest to West Arrow Streets.

Ward 4 Councilman Craig Thompson explained he would like to see there be no parking on each side of that portion of South Miami Avenue.

After batting it around, the council decided to table a decision until it can gather more information.

The council voted to table a decision on the first reading of a traffic ordinance to prohibit parking on the north side of East Slater Street from North Lincoln to North Brunswick Avenues for the same reason.

The council approved the first reading of an ordinance to prohibit parking on the east side of South Salt Pond Avenue from West College to West Arrow Streets. The second reading of the ordinance will need to be approved during a future meeting before it will go into effect.

In other news, the council approved the second reading of an ordinance to lease agricultural land owned by the city to the Missouri State Corn Husking Championships.
