
Three-time world champion Tim O’Connell is in position to capture another Gold Buckle at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo taking place this week in Arlington, Texas.
According to Prorodeo.com, O’Connell, a graduate of Missouri Valley College and Marshall resident, currently is second in the standings, a half-point behind the leader through five rounds in the bareback riding event.
Richmond Champion has accumulated 428 points through five rides to O’Connell’s 427.5. Kaycee Feild is third, only a half-point back of O’Connell. Champion won Round 1 , Feild Round 3 and O’Connell Round 4.
O’Connell, a Zwingle, Iowa, native, was fourth in Round 5, with an 87 aboard Famous Dex.
Round 6 is tonight. O’Connell is scheduled to ride “Blessed Assurance.”
O’Connell leads the 2020 overall money standings by more than $32,000 over Feild.
The final round of the NFR is Saturday night.
