Nearly two dozen students from an area high school have been recognized by a national organization.

According to a news release, the National Speech and Debate Association recently announced 56 high school students as the 2019-20 Speaking and Service Award winners, including 23 from Marshall High School.

These are the top students in the nation who speak and perform at events outside of school activities- such as speaking at churches, clubs and organizations.

Marshall students earning the recognition are: Drew Arends; Hailey Arndt; Josey Bartlett; Adilynn Bolling; KK Elfrink; Joseue Flores; Aidyn Garrison; Conner Grossenburg; Michael Hechavarria; Lily Hunter; Hope James; Olivia Kiso; Aareyanna Larimore; Elizabeth McDonald; Jenna Mikle; Matthew Robbins; Jacqueline Rodriguez; Rayeleigh Setter; Gelaila Smith; Marissa Snell; Adison Stocksdale; Gunner Ussery; and Marissa Vestal.

The students are coached by Paul Gieringer, who is in his 43rd year at MHS.
