Members of the Marshall School Board batted around numerous ideas and thoughts about sports teams and other extra-curricular activities in the district during a special meeting on Tuesday, December 8.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, it was decided after much discussion that the new phase thresholds for the Returning to Learning (R2L) Plan will be prepared by Director of Data Analysis Jim Papreck and Bueker Middle School Principal Travis Reid and submitted to the R2L Working Group for discussion during the group’s meeting on Monday, December 14.

If agreed to by the Working Group, these new thresholds will be sent by the superintendent to the board as a proposed change to the R2L Plan.

The board will then have an opportunity to provide feedback on proposed changes within 24 hours of receiving the proposal.

Upon adoption of the new phase thresholds into the R2L Plan, athletics and activities will resume immediately, if the phase levels indicate that it is safe to do so.

Regardless of whether or not is safe to resume athletics and extra-curricular activities during the holiday break, in-seat learning will not resume until January 4- as stipulated at the December 4 meeting- if the new phase thresholds indicate that it is safe to do so.

In other news from the meeting, Board President Erin Meyer and Vice President Harry Carrell will collect questions from board members and meet with relevant curriculum stakeholders to get answers to those questions and report back to the rest of the board during a future meeting.
