One Boonville man was killed and another suffered moderate injuries in a head-on traffic crash in Cooper County on Monday.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as a northbound vehicle, driven by 46-year-old Richard Nichols, crossed into the southbound lane of Missouri Highway 5 and struck a southbound vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Ryan Scott.

Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cooper County Coroner James Hurt at 9:20 p.m. Nichols was transported by Cooper County EMS to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened at 9:18 p.m. one-quarter of a mile south of Smith Street.
