Born November 11, 1926 in Nelson, she was the daughter of the late Walter James Hanlin and Elsie Pearl Jeffries Hanlin and was a 1944 graduate of Nelson High School. On May 15, 1944 she married D. Edward Caton who preceded her in death on June 2, 1984. On March 14, 1993 she married Lawrence V. Allen who preceded her in death on July 2, 2014. She lived on her family farm from 1944 to 2013 when she moved to Big Bend Retreat. To say that Elsie was just a homemaker isn’t adequate. She was a wife, mother, farm worker, and so much more for her family and later worked as a home health caregiver for many years. She attended Heath Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include nine children: Norma Scott, Mary Caton, Sue Wolfe, Joe Caton, Mike Caton, John Caton, Sara Nichols, Tom Caton and Richard Caton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, four children: James David Caton, Donald Caton, Beth Painter and Charlie Caton; two sisters, Mary Adams and Velma Jones; and one brother, James Earl Hanlin.
