Multiple COVID-19-related deaths were reported in area counties on Tuesday, December 22.

According to health-department officials, in Carroll County, the death total jumped by five to 19 since last reported on December 15. The total positive case count increased by 55 to 781 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 19 deaths and 719 recoveries, there are 43 active cases in the county.

Two more deaths upped the total to 51 in Pettis County. Since last reported on December 18, the total positive case count grew by 80 to 3,982. Due to 51 deaths and 3,380 recoveries, there are 551 active cases, including 10 positive patients hospitalized.

In Saline County, one more death was reported, increasing its total to 42. Also, 20 more positive cases were confirmed, upping the total to 2,119. With 1,960 previously positive cases now inactive and 42 deaths, there are 117 active cases in the county.

A total of 16 new positive cases were reported in Howard County, raising the county’s total to 902. With 829 recoveries and four deaths, there are 69 active cases in the county, including five hospitalizations.

In Chariton County, 11 more positive cases were added, upping the county’s total to 593. With 531 recoveries and 15 deaths, there are 47 active cases.

Updates were not available from Cooper and Lafayette Counties.
