This is definitely a hold-onto-your-hat kind of day.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for most of the KMMO listening area until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23.

According to a news release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may result.

Southwest winds are expected to be 20 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, throughout the advisory period.

You are also urged to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.

Affected area counties include Saline, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard and Pettis.
