Saline County will have a new Treasurer for the first time in eight years.

On Wednesday, December 30, Jared Brewer was formally sworn in to take over the duties. Marty Smith has served in the post since January 1, 2013.

Brewer says Smith has been a great help over the last month or so getting him ready.

According to the county’s website, the County Treasurer takes care of receipts for all funds received by the county, deposits them in the bank, credits them to their proper fund within the county accounting system, then balances the account. The County Treasurer also is the Treasurer for the Schools.

For the past 7-1/2 years, Brewer says he has been a bank manager in Sweet Springs. He says he loves crunching numbers, which is a big part of the job.

Brewer, a graduate of Bowling Green High School and Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri) in Warrensburg, says he wants to do a good job for the citizens of the county.

Brewer says he’s looking forward to beginning his new position.

Brewer officially takes office on January 1. But his first official first day in the office will be Monday, January 4.
