Freezing rain and snow that began during the early morning hours on New Year’s day left many area roadways covered or partially covered with snow and ice, making for treacherous driving conditions.  Some area communities have had snowfall throughout the day that continues to cover the streets.

According to MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map, most major highways and rural routes in the immediate KMMO listening area are now mostly clear or partially covered.

That includes I-70 from just east of Kansas City to Columbia; U.S. Highway 65 from south of Sedalia near Windsor Junction north through Marshall to just west of Grand pass; and Highway 24 from Waverly to Lexington.

Highway 65 from as far north as the Iowa State line to just east of Waverly near Grand Pass; 10-Highway from Carrollton to the Carroll County/Ray County line; and Highway 23 from Waverly south to Route CC in Johnson County remain completely covered.

MoDOT advises drivers to slow down and take their time and allow extra time to reach their destination today.
