J.C. Vogelsmeier, age 98, of Sweet Springs, MO, died January 2, 2021 at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, with Pastor Alan Mueller officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation, but friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Face masks will be required at all events and social distancing will be observed.

Born December 30, 1922 in Sweet Springs, MO, he was the son of the late John H. Vogelsmeier and Minnie Storck Vogelsmeier. On December 1, 1945 he married Marjorie Dee Armentrout who preceded him in death on April 28, 2011. J.C. lived in the Sweet Springs area his entire life where he farmed and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going to coffee and playing cards.

Survivors include three children: Jim Vogelsmeier and fiancée, Mary Jo Broaddus of Sweet Springs, Mary Yokley of Sweet Springs and Connie Maggert (Jerry) of Concordia; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Martha Jane Vogelsmeier of Concordia; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Sam Ed Yokley; five brothers: Leonard, Melvin, Lester “Shorty”, Elbert and Harold “Bud” Vogelsmeier; and two sisters, Velma Frerking and Helen V. Schlueter.
