A 37-year-old Lexington woman is facing a felony charge for allegedly trying to disarm a police officer on December 31, 2020.

According to a probable-cause statement, officers were called to a residence at 6 p.m. for a disturbance. Officers advised Mindy Dawn Garrett, who appeared to be intoxicated and causing the disturbance, of the 12-hour rule and urged her to go to bed.

Officers were called back to the same address less than 3-1/2 hours later for another disturbance. Upon arrival, an officer was informed Garrett came out of her bedroom and caused the disturbance and was trying to set the house on fire.

The officer informed Garrett she was under arrest, and she attempted to assault the officer. She also attempted to gain control of his side arm, forcing the officer to use his Taser to gain control of her. Garrett was transported to the Lafayette County Jail.

Court documents say Garrett is charged with a Class D Felony for Disarming a Peace Officer or Correctional Officer While Performing Official Duty and three misdemeanors. Bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Garrett’s initial hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
