
A 65-year-old Sedalia man is facing a felony for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that caused physical injury to another person.
According to a report from the Sedalia Police Department, an officer reported to the scene of an injury accident on October 10, 2020. Upon arrival, the officer noted the victim had part of his middle finger on his right hand amputated during the accident. The victim said he was eastbound on West Broadway Boulevard when a silver minivan pulled out in front of him from a parking lot. The victim claimed he was not able to stop before colliding with the van. The victim said he swerved to attempt to pull into a nearby parking lot. The victim said he missed the parking-lot entrance and hit the bowling alley sign post at around 40 mph. He was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment of his injury
The driver of the van, Jesus Fierro-Gutierrez denied being involved in an accident. However, he was identified as the driver by a witness to the accident.
Fierro-Gutierrez is charged with a Class C Felony for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Causing Physical Injury. Fierro-Gutierrez posted $7,500 surety bond on January 5, 2021.
Fierro-Gutierrez was arraigned on December 28, 2020. A Preliminary Hearing in this case is set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
