A 60-year-old man who was an inmate at the Boonville Correctional Center over the summer has been charged with a couple of felonies for allegedly attacking one of the personnel on July 1, 2020.

According to a probable-cause statement, William Riggs entered Housing Unit 10 and went upstairs to the office of the Institutional Probation Officer and is alleged to have physically attacked her by hitting her with his fists and choked her with an extension cord. He also admitted to an investigator that he was going to rape her. The IPO had visual bruising around her neck and right hand from the extension cord.

Court documents say Riggs, who currently is an inmate in Jefferson City, is charged with a Class B Felony for Violence to an Employee of the Department of Corrections by an Inmate and an Unclassified Felony for Rape or Attempted Rape in the First Degree- Aggravated Sexual Assault.

Riggs’ initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
