
Two Newton, Iowa, residents are facing drug charges after a traffic stop in Saline County on January 22.
According to a report from a Saline County Deputy, he conducted a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle on northbound U.S. Highway 65. During the traffic stop, the passenger provided multiple versions of identification and showed signs of impairment by a stimulant narcotic. When the passenger made statements about narcotics to be present in the vehicle, a search of the vehicle was conducted. The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested for possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine- and transported to the Saline County Sheriff’s Department.
Court documents say 35-year-old Jamie Lea Chance and 63-year-old James Edward Keith each is charged with a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance and a drug-related misdemeanor. Chance is charged with an additional drug-related misdemeanor and Keith a driving-related misdemeanor. Bond is set at $7,500 cash or surety for each subject.
An initial hearing for each defendant is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
