guilty-plea

A Boonville man who had his felony charges reduced to a misdemeanor has entered a plea on the lesser charge.

A probable-cause statement says Darryl Kelley was involved in a fight at the Boonville Correctional Center on July 1, and after it was stopped by a correction officer, Kelley picked up a broom and broke the handle of the room against the kiosk machine. Kelley then went to the bathroom area where other offenders involved in a fight were being held awaiting additional staff to assist with the situation. Kelley pushed one of the other correction officers while holding the broom handle in his hands in a threatening manner. Once other staff arrived, Kelley was escorted outside of the housing unit, where he resisted being put in hand restraints to be escorted to the segregation unit.

Kelley was original facing a Class B Felony for Violence to an Employee of the Department Corrections and a Class D Felony for Damage to the Department of Corrections Building. According to online court documents, the charges were amended on January 7, those charges were amended, and Kelley has been charged with misdemeanor Assault in the fourth degree.

Kelley pleaded guilty to the Assault charge on February 2 and was sentenced to 30-days in jail.
