A 37-year-old Lexington woman is facing a felony charge for allegedly trying to disarm a police officer last year.

Officers were called to a residence on the night of December 31 for a disturbance. When officers arrived Mindy Dawn Garrett, who was allegedly the cause of the disturbance appeared to be intoxicated. The officer urged Garrett to go to bed but, just a few hours later, officers were called out to the same residence for another disturbance.

When the officer informed Garrett she was under arrest, she attempted to assault the officer and gain control of his side arm, forcing the officer to use his Taser to gain control of her.

Court documents say Garrett is charged with a Class D Felony for Disarming a Peace Officer or Correctional Officer While Performing Official Duty and three misdemeanors. Bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Garrett entered a not-guilty plea on January 5. Her next hearing is scheduled to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
