Bids were opened and some were approved during a special meeting of the Saline County Commission on Wednesday, February 17.

According to unofficial minutes, Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. said the special session was called due to inclement weather, and the session not being able to be held on Tuesday, February 16.

Commissioners announced the bid contents for the replacement and restoration of the flooring on the second floor of the courthouse, as well as bids for the sale of excess equipment from the Saline County Road & Bridge Department.

One bid was received for the second floor replacement/restoration from Ward Tile & Stone, of Marshall. It was in the amount of $190,000. Commissioners voted to take the bid under advisement, giving them time for further review.

Two bids were received for the sale of excess equipment from the county Road & Bridge Department. The listed equipment for sale included a 1996 JD 8570 four-wheel drive tractor; a Degelman dozer blade; and a Holcomb 2006 14-yard scraper. Bids received were from: Cook Auction Co., of Clinton: tractor- $17,000, scraper- $17,500 and blade- $4,000, for a total bid of $41,000; and Joe Clements, of Miami: tractor- $16,750, scraper- $15,290 and blade- $2,550, for a total bid of $34,590.

After speaking with Road & Bridge supervisor Rodney Moore, Guthrey asked for a motion to accept the bid received from Cook Auction Co. for the purchase of all three pieces of equipment at $41,000. The motion was seconded and approved.
