A 24-year-old Independence woman has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly being in possession of numerous drug-related items after a traffic stop on August 20 on I-70 in Lafayette County.

According to a probable-cause statement, with the help of a canine, the law-enforcement officer located a number of different illegal drugs and several items used to consume the drugs, inside the vehicle.

Lauren McCarty is charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; two counts of a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; a Class E Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; and three drug-related misdemeanors. McCarty posted $1,500 of a $15,000 cash only bond.

McCarty pleaded not guilty during her arraignment on August 21. Her next court proceeding is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
