A 26-year-old Sedalia woman is facing felony charges for allegedly assaulting a woman with a weapon last year.

According to a sheriff’s report on May 5, Chelsie Renee Comfort allegedly entered a residence in rural Pettis County, got into an altercation with another woman and assaulted the woman in the head with a hammer. Comfort then left the residence and the victim went to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Comfort is charged with a Class D Felony for Assault in the Second Degree and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. She posted $50,000 surety bond on July 28.

Comfort waived formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty on January 19. Due to inclement weather, Comfort’s next court appearance is rescheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, March 1 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
