The No. 16 Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling team competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Saturday in Fayette, Mo.  The Vikings finished third in the team standings, and Senior Nancy Becerra (Mission, Texas) earned an individual conference title.

 

No. 20 Senior Nancy Becerra (Mission, Texas) at 143 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Received a bye.

Semifinal: Received a bye.

Championship Match: Defeated Akina Yamada of Waldorf (Iowa) in a 13-4 decision.

Becerra finished as Heart champion at 143 pounds.

 

Freshman Lillianna Campbell (Hilo, Hawaii) at 109 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 18 Abigail Halstead of Baker (Kan.) in a first period (2:48) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 9 Chloe Krebsbach of Grand View (Iowa) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Received a bye.

Third Place Match: Defeated No. 14 Kassidy Leiszler of Baker (Kan.) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Campbell finished third at 109 pounds.

 

Freshman Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.) at 130 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Received a bye.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 16 Diana Dzasezeva of Waldorf (Iowa) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Received a bye.

Third Place Match: Defeated No. 19 Jennifer Castaneda of Waldorf (Iowa) in a 2-0 decision.

Barnes finished third at 130 pounds.

 

No. 12 Freshman Savanna McCutchen (Rayville, Mo.) at 136 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 4 Andrea Schlabach of Grand View (Iowa) in a second period (3:36) pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated No. 9 Abbie Jones of Baker (Kan.) in a 20-8 technical fall.

Third Place Match: Defeated Jaimes Clark of Baker (Kan.) in a first period (2:23) pin.

McCutchen finished third at 136 pounds.

 

No. 7 Junior Jocelyn Murphy (Jacksonville, Ill.) at 136 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Received a bye.

Semifinal: Defeated No. 9 Abbie Jones of Baker (Kan.) in a first period (1:23) pin.

Championship Match: Lost to No. 4 Andrea Schlabach of Grand View (Iowa) in a 7-2 decision.

Murphy finished second at 136 pounds.

 

No. 19 Sophomore Brooke-Lynn Rush (St. Joseph, Mo.) at 155 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost to Salima Omari of William Penn (Iowa) in a 12-0 technical fall.

Consolation First Round: Defeated Rachel Rodawald of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a first period (0:15) pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Aliyah Ashby of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a 9-6 decision.

Third Place Match: Defeated No. 12 Berenice Espino of Waldorf (Iowa) in an 8-3 decision.

Rush finished third at 155 pounds.

 

Freshman Kambrie Hedrick (Kansas City, Mo.) at 155 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 3 Morgan Mayginnes of Baker (Kan.) in an 11-1 technical fall.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to No. 12 Berenice Espino of Waldorf (Iowa) in a 10-2 decision.

 

No. 12 Junior Mahealani Ramirez (Aiea, Hawaii) at 170 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 20 Kiya Jones of Baker (Kan.) in a second period (4:08) pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated teammate No. 6 Danielle Saldivar in a 2-1 decision.

Third Place Match: Defeated No. 7 Kassandra Lindemann of Grand View (Iowa) in a 9-0 decision.

Ramirez finished third at 170 pounds.

 

No. 6 Sophomore Danielle Saldivar (El Paso, Texas) at 170 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 7 Kassandra Lindemann of Grand View (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 11 Jennifer Curry of Baker (Kan.) in a 10-1 decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to teammate No. 12 Mahealani Ramirez in a 2-1 decision.

 

Missouri Valley finished third in the team standings, with 56.5 points.  No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) won the team championship with 97 points, followed by No. 6 Baker (Kan.) with 93.

Up next, the Viking women’s wrestling team will compete at the 2021 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Invitational, March 12-13, in Jamestown, N.D.
