For allegedly resisting arrest on December 19, a New Franklin man has been charged with a felony.

A Howard County Sheriff’s department report says deputies were dispatched to a report of an assault in progress between a male and female. Deputies and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper were on the scene, and Ian Hugh Brennan failed to comply with their orders.

Brennan had to be Tased, but it had no effect. Eventually authorities wrestled Brennan to the ground, and he continued to resist. Eventually they put him in handcuffs. During the scuffle, one of the deputies suffered injuries.

Court documents say Brennan is charged with a Class D Felony for Assault in the Third Degree- Special Victim; and misdemeanors for resisting arrest and assault in the fourth degree.

The Court amended Brennan’s bond and set it at $4950 with ten-percent surety allowed. Brennan posted ten-percent of the reduced bond on January 15.

Preliminary Hearing Setting in this case is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, February 23 at Howard County Circuit Court.
