A 39-year-old Stover man was killed in a fiery traffic crash in Benton County on Sunday.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as an eastbound vehicle, driven by James Scheil, ran off the right side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment, struck a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Scheil, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was transported to the Benton County Coroner’s office.

The crash happened at 9:10 p.m. on Missouri Highway 52, just east of Brockman Avenue.
