
The Smith-Cotton High School chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 39 new members during an induction ceremony Wednesday, March 10, at the Heckart Performing Arts Center.
The event included a celebration of NHS’s centennial, which the organization is marking this year; the change of chapter officers and student leadership of the Community Café; and the annual awarding of honorary NHS membership to a member of the S-C High faculty. Chapter President Ethan Daly announced that teacher Jay Lutjen was selected for honorary membership.
This year’s inductees include:
Juniors: Samuel Cash, Jacquelyn Fairfax, Addison Guffin, Gareth Herrington, Kiran Lewellyn, Travis Miller and Lexus Pineda;
and Sophomores: Isaiah Acosta, MacKenzie Allison, Alaina Ayers, Taygan Bailey, Madelyn Bell, McKenzie Boeschen, Bailey Brown, Leyton Burt, Luisa Cinta, Rehleigh Curry, Nickoles Daly, Raegan Fairfax, Alyssa Gear, Joanna Gonzalezrubio, Lauren Grupe, Paris Hammer, Anita Husyeva, Mason King, Jones Knight, Natalie Lathan, Boston Middleton, Grace Miley, Lizbeth Nandhorafael, Lily Ream, Dawson Rettke, Darren Sanchez, Cody Smith, Hayleigh Snyder, Hannah Tippin, Jeremy Weber, Tianxin Weng and Ethan Zarhouni.
New officers for the 2021-22 school year: Ethan Moore, president; Jessica Tienda, vice president; Anna Johnston, secretary; Levi Barth-Fagan, treasurer; and Lucy Mahalovich, historian.
Current Community Café Student Director Abby Bruce “passed the spoon” to new director Anna Johnston.
NHS 100-year medals for service to the school and community were awarded to S-C alums Jason Kindle, Ashley Raetz, Ashley Bates, Susan Couhig and Lisa Braverman. Current NHS members Natalie Adermann and Cody Strecker were awarded the NHS Excellence Award for their commitments to leadership, service and character.
NHS advisor Dr. Lorin Blackburn-Thierfelder also was honored by the chapter for her efforts.
