A 26-year-old Warrensburg man originally charged with second-degree murder last year is no longer facing any charges in Johnson County.

According to the Warrensburg Police Department, Evan R. Lanigan and 28-year-old Christian J. Harrison, of Knob Noster, were charged in connection with the shooting death of Maliyah Lakey on August 1. Two other persons were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries from gunshots. Each of the suspects originally faced a second-degree murder charge and several other felonies.

Lanigan was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on February 22 to amended charges of a Class B Felony for Assault in the First Degree; a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Exhibiting; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action.

According to a release from the court system, the case against Lanigan was dismissed. However, it is not known whether or not the case was dismissed with or without prejudice. If the case was dismissed without prejudice, then charges can be filed again if more information becomes available to support charges being filed. According to the Johnson County Circuit Clerk’s office, no other information can be released about the case at this time.

Lanigan was being held without bond.

Harrison’s charges were amended on March 8, and he pleaded guilty to two counts of a Class A Felony for Unlawful Use of Weapon; a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree or Attempt- Serious Physical Injury; a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The court sentenced Harrison to a total of 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
