Saline County residents could see an increase in their personal property and real estate taxes this year.

Saline County Assessor Jessica Goodman was at the meeting of the county commission on Thursday, March 18, to notify the public so taxpayers can be better prepared for the increases happening now in personal property and real estate assessments.

Goodman says the state tax commission is mandating the change.

Goodman says personal property values also are increasing.

Goodman says the taxing districts could make the increases less burdensome.

Goodman said she and Saline County Collector Cindi Sims will be mailing out an informational letter to notify taxpayers of this, as well as give them information on how to ease the tax burden if they do see an increase in their tax bill this year.

Goodman says she’s not mandated to notify residents until June, but she said “I just don’t think that’s enough time for people to be aware of what can happen. The sooner they’re notified, maybe the better prepared they can be.”
