Marshall Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher announced the district may be getting some extra funds.
During her report at the school board meeting on Tuesday, March 23, Dr. Maher said Missouri schools may receive up to $784,055,062 through federal funding from the School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) II.
Dr. Maher said the district plans to increase social distancing and improve air quality in its schools.
Marshall’s allocation will be $2,138,793, which is in addition to the ESSER funds received for last year.
The district plans to use this allocation for funding two sessions of summer school; to purchase real estate for BMS green space and playground for outside ventilation and social distancing; and secure an all-district marquee for increased communication efforts pertaining to the health and welfare of students.
One-time federal funding cannot be used for salary schedules since those expenditures will continue into the future.
In other news from the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Terry Lorenz reported final details of the sod replacement on Cecil Naylor Field are being reviewed, with a start date of May 3-10. He also said only two of the district’s buses had minor defects during the annual inspection by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Department of Transportation. He also said Wi-Fi is being installed on activity buses for trips.
