Peter Michael “Mike” Allcorn, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away in the early hours of April 12 in the Lincoln Community Care Center in Lincoln, Missouri.  He was born in a hogan on a Navajo reservation on July 18, 1964.  In 1968, he was adopted by Dr. and Mrs. Donald J. Allcorn while they were stationed at Crownpoint New Mexico Indian Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents.

Mike attended state schools in Flint, Michigan, and Sedalia, Missouri.  He graduated from EW Thompson State School on May 15, 1985.  He then worked at the Center for Human Services until he entered the Lincoln Community Care Center in 2016.

Anyone who met Mike immediately smiled.  He was an entertainer with a creative imagination despite having difficulty with speech development.  Mike made everyone laugh with impersonations, bear hugs, comedic acting, and his love of dancing.  Shopping in Sedalia with Mike was like being with a celebrity-everyone knew him and wanted to visit.  All who met Mike left with a warm response for those with Down Syndrome.

The youngest of six children, Mike enjoyed multiple sibling events, including parties, graduation, and his favorite …weddings!  He was uncle to seventeen boys and girls, whom he kept constantly laughing with “Uncle Mike” antics.

Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at 32 years of age and was baptized by his father on 8-18-96.  Mike had a strong faith.  He would often meet total strangers with an obvious injury and hold their hand while praying for them.  He loved to sing hymns glorifying the Lord…his favorite was “I’ll Fly Away”.

Mike is survived by two sisters, Ann Martin (Frank) of Hallsville, Missouri, and Susan Admire (Dr. Robert) of Lantana, Texas;  three brothers, Dr. Donald K. Allcorn (Brenda) of Cole Camp, Missouri; Jeffery Allcorn (Karen) of Ava, Missouri, and Charles Allcorn of Warsaw, Missouri; seventeen nieces and nephews which include Joshua Allcorn, Caleb Allcorn, Hannah Zaragoza, Dr. John Admire, Charles Admire, Scott Admire, Christopher Admire, Andrew Martin, Ashley Miller, Amber Day, Arin O’Brien, Dr. Kristin Killen, Zachary Allcorn, Sara Scalzitti, Dr. Kathryn Lotz, Alyssa Crabb, and Dr. Ashton Wedemeyer.

Pallbears will be Joshua Allcorn, Caleb Allcorn, Charles Admire, Scott Admire, Christopher Admire, and Zachary Allcorn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Human Services, Benton County-Social Leisure Events in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
