During the Polar Vortex in February when temperatures plummeted well below zero and stayed there for several days and the possibility of rolling blackouts was a concern for residents in many area towns, Marshall Municipal Utilities’ General Manager Jeff Bergstrom says MMU was never in that danger zone. In fact, he says MMU generated so much energy, it received a credit.
Bergstrom said the misconception is that because the power plant is being demolished, MMU doesn’t have any generation left.
Bergstrom said four units were running, and the revenue generated was quite a bit more than MMU’s bill for that same time period.
Bergstrom said there are a lot of communities being stuck paying for the high commodity prices during February.
So what does all of this mean for MMU’s customers?
