The Sedalia 200 School District has hired two new teachers to lead its instrumental music programs.

During a closed session on Monday, April 19, the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education approved the hires of Max Meigel as Sedalia 200 band director and Andrew Fischer as an assistant band/orchestra director.

Meigel attended Truman State University where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music and a master’s of education in music education. He served as a graduate assistant with the Truman State bands before teaching middle school band and assisting with the high school band program in Troy.

“The schools in Sedalia – and indeed the town as a whole – have a rich musical history,” Meigel said. “I am excited to hit the ground running with our bands and to continue to build on the tradition of excellence at Smith-Cotton.”

Fischer holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Arkansas and is pursuing a master’s in music education from the University of Central Missouri. He started his music teaching career at Kingston School in Jasper, Ark., and has been the instrumental music instructor for the Cole Camp R-1 School District since 2016.

“My goals coming into this new position are to help students find joy in music and to build upon the instrumental music programs that have had such a strong history in Sedalia,” Fischer said. “I look forward to meeting and working with all of the current students, parents, and community members and to continuing the legacy of instrumental music at Sedalia 200.”
