The Marshall School Board reorganized the Board of Education during its meeting on Tuesday, April 20.

Bryon Jacques was elected President. Matt Smith was unanimously elected as Vice President and Ed Harper was elected Treasurer. Also during the meeting, Linda Perkins was elected as Secretary; Ellen Lance was named MSBA Delegate with Harry Carrell as MSBA Alternate Delegate.

The Board also gave its approval for the Parents As Teachers Program Review and the Guidance/Counseling Program Review.
Assistant Superintendent Terry Lorenz reported that the fiber project is progressing at the high school and the sod replacement project is scheduled for May 3-10.

Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reported on a survey completed by the administrative team and the R2L committee. According to Dr. Maher, Phase 1 of the R2L Plan will be reinstated when the Saline County 14-day average number of COVID cases is below .647. At the time of the meeting, they were at .428. If these numbers stay low for three days, the district will begin planning to transition to Phase 1. The transition will go into effect Monday, April 26. In the event that the numbers increase and remain for three days, the district will transition back to Phase 2.

Also during the meeting, it was announced that two sessions of summer school will be held. Learning Recovery will be held in June and High Flyers Workshop will take place during the morning hours in July.

It was also announced that the State Auditor’s Office has still not completed the audit of the district. Findings from the audit are expected to be available this summer.

Assistant Superintendent Terry Lorenz reported bids were taken for the e-rate category 2 Beuker Middle School Service Closet and internet wiring for the new PN Building. The board unanimously accepted the bid from CTS in the amount of $119,373.50. The district will pay 20-percent of this amount with e-rates paying the remaining 80-percent.

Two bids were received for BMS elevator repair and replacement. The board unanimously approved the bid in the amount of $126,500 from Allrise Elevator Company, contingent upon questioning the starting date and they will meet all the requirements to bring the elevator in compliance with the State of Missouri.

Approval was given for the district to purchase the land, north of BMS, in the amount of $89,900. This will be used to expand the BMS playground.

The board tabled discussion on extra duty stipends until the May meeting when more information could be available.
Dr. Lorenz also reported three bids were received for the dishwasher at Marshall High School. The bid from Hobart, in the amount of $25,226.66 was accepted by the board.

The board also discussed employee insurance coverage and certified and classified salary schedules for the 2021-22 school year.
The board accepted the following resignations during the meeting. Each of these individuals will be leaving their current positions at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

· Janet Rall, Manager of HOOT HRC, as of April 22, 2021;
· Kayla Gorrell, BMS Soccer and Track Coach;
· Mark Pringle, Bus Driver is retireing
· Laura Jackson, Financial Aid Advisor/Community Ed Coordinator;
· Barbara Powell, Spainhower Primary 1st Grade Teacher;
· Ashley Lovercamp, Process Coordinator;
· Hannah Marshall, Spainhower Kindergarten Paraprofessional;
· Jennifer Setter, Spainhower Kindergarten Paraprofessional;
· Melissa Wissman, EW 4th Grade Teacher;
· Shelby Powell, SE Special Education Teacher.

The board approved employment of the following as of the 2021-22 school year:

· Iris Cruz, Parents As Teacher Educator, as of June 1, 2021;

· Mackensie Cochran, SE 3rd Grade Teacher;
· Amanda Collins, SE 3rd Grade Teacher;
· Jennifer Diaz, Spainhower Primary 1st Grade Teacher;
· Brandy Beayon, BMS 5th Grade Teacher;
· Lyndsey Bobki, Benton/Eastwood Counselor;
· Melissa Renfrow, EW 2nd Grade Teacher;
· Daniel Agao, MHS Special Education;
· Kimberly Oswald, EW 2nd Grade Teacher, Long Term Sub.

The motion was carried for Travis Reid to be employed as BMS Assistant Principal, as of the 2021-22 school year. The motion was also carried on a roll call vote for Mindi Coslet and Adym Cooney to be employed as MHS Assistant Principals. Lindsey Parton, Eden DeGonia, and Jason Varner were all approved by the board for HRC Managers.

The next regular meeting of the Marshall Board of Education is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 25.
