A 24-year-old Independence woman has changed her plea after being charged for allegedly being in possession of numerous drug-related items following a traffic stop on August 20 on I-70 in Lafayette County.

According to a probable-cause statement, with the help of a canine, the law-enforcement officer located a number of different illegal drugs and several items used to consume the drugs, inside the vehicle.

Lauren McCarty was originally charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; two counts of a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; a Class E Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; and three drug-related misdemeanors. The charges were amended and McCarty pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Execution of sentence was suspended and McCarty has been placed on five years probation.
