A 61-year-old Slater man was killed in a rollover traffic crash in Saline County on Monday, April 26.

A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred as 63-year-old Donnita Friend, of Slater, overcorrected her westbound vehicle that had traveled off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle returned to the roadway, began to skid, crossed the center and off the left side, struck a ditch, overturned and struck a fence. The passenger was ejected, and the vehicle came to rest on its top.

James Friend was pronounced deceased, and Donnita Friend was flown by Life Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries. Neither of the vehicle’s occupants was wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened at 10:53 a.m. on Highway 240, east of Marigold Avenue.
