
Betty Jo Martin Miller, age 100 of Marshall, MO, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Born on November 3, 1920, in Saline County, MO, she was the daughter of the late J. Francis Martin and Catherine Thompson Martin. She graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1938, and from Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She worked as a registered nurse for 43 years, the first two years at University of Missouri Hospital. On January 9, 1942, she married Ryland Miller and continued to work as her husband finished his Master’s Degree at the University of Missouri. He was assigned to Iron County where they lived for eight years. They were transferred to Caldwell County where he continued as University of Missouri Extension Agent. Betty was a District Public Health Nurse at Cameron, MO and worked there for 17 years. She retired from the Missouri Division of Health District 1 in 1984 when they moved to Saline County. Ryland preceded her in death on November 13, 1994. Betty had toured all of the United States and seven foreign countries including Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, Switzerland, Ireland and Canada. She was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Monday Club, D.A.R., Retired RN Club, Cretcher Club, and the First Baptist Church of Marshall.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Kaye Darter (Jerry) of Kansas City, MO and Linda Ann Ricketts (Kim) of Salisbury, MO; four grandchildren, Christy Kaeding (Matt), Pamela Hart (Kerry), Sarah Dunham (John) and Seth Ricketts (Janelle); seven great-grandchildren, Kate and Abigail Peiffer, Emma, Andrew and Tori Ricketts, Taylor and Cooper Hart; and several nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by one brother, William Francis (Bill) Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Wayne Doolin officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs.
