A Marshall resident is facing felony charges after he allegedly stole an ATV and resisted arrest after a reported incident on Monday, April 26, in Saline County.

According to a report from a sheriff’s deputy, deputies were called to a residence on Garland Avenue in Sweet Springs for the report of a man on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trespassing on private property. After arriving near the scene, authorities encountered the reporting party who said the man abandoned the ATV and fled into a wooded area. The deputy learned the ATV was taken from the property without permission.

The deputy located the suspect, who continued walking away from the deputy, not complying with the deputy’s commands to stop. The suspect eventually stopped and got on the ground, but he refused to comply and lie face down on the ground, instead he sat up and was digging into the storage area of his backpack. The deputy pulled his Taser and placed it on the suspect’s upper back, at which time the suspect complied and was placed in handcuffs. The suspect also attempted to head-butt one of the deputies.

According to court documents, Chaitez Sexton Jr. is charged with Class D Felonies for Burglary in the Second Degree and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree; Class E Felonies for Resisting Arrest for a Felony and Attempted Assault in the Third Degree- Special Victim; and an infraction for trespassing. Bond is set at $7,500 cash only.

Sexton is scheduled to be arraigned at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at Saline County Circuit Court.
