An arrest has been made in an identity theft case in an area city.

According to the Sedalia Police Department, on April 6, an officer took a report from a female victim in the state of California in reference to her identity being stolen and used in Sedalia. The victim reported that the unknown suspect has been working under her identity at various businesses and also has attempted to file taxes under her identity.

The case was transferred to SPD’s Criminal Investigations Bureau. Detective Travis St.Cyr was able to determine that a female using the victim’s identity is currently employed at a local business. The suspect was able to successfully obtain a Missouri non-driver’s license and a fictitious Social Security card under the victim’s identity.

On Tuesday, April 26, Detective St.Cyr relayed case information to Cpl. Arnold who was able to locate and arrest the suspect. The fraudulent non-driver’s license, fictitious Social Security card and other fraudulent documents also were seized. It was later determined that the suspect has been using the victim’s identity for at least nine years.

Arrested was 31-year-old Lourdes Rubio Herrera, who was transported to the Pettis County Jail where she was placed on a 24-hour hold for three counts of Forgery and Felony Identity Theft.

Court documents say Herrera is charged with two counts of a Class D Felony for Forgery. Bond has not been set yet.

Herrera’s initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
