The plan is for the Slater Swimming Pool to open on Memorial Day- which is Monday, May 31.
According to Slater City Administrator Gene Griffith, the city is looking for some more certified lifeguards at this point. He said they have four and would like to have six by the time the pool opens. He said three lifeguards are on duty at all times. Griffith said anybody interested in being a lifeguard is asked to contact city hall at (660) 529-2271. He said the pool is scheduled to be open 1-6 p.m. every day throughout the summer.
During the council meeting on Tuesday, May 4, the council was updated on the McQueen Day Car Show. Griffith said it is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 19. Check in starts at 9 a.m., with judging at noon. He said trophies will be awarded at about 2:30 p.m., and a cruise will commence immediately afterward.
In other news, Griffith said an election was not necessary in April due to all four incumbents running unopposed. So the four members- Terry Jordan, Brenda Smith, Matt Campbell and Crystal Wiseman- were sworn in for another two-year term.
Griffith said it also was asked of the council to adjust the times to allow for the shooting off of fireworks within the city limits. Nothing was decided. The council will look into it more before making a decision.
