During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, May 14, Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. gave an update on a hazard mitigation planning meeting commissioners attended on Wednesday, May 13.
Guthrey explained city officials, villages and town leaders, school districts, colleges and many other entities were invited and need to attend the meeting to develop and update a plan every five years.
Guthrey listed several of the hazards relevant to the county and jurisdiction.
Guthrey explained each jurisdiction must pay its fees every year or it runs the risk of not being eligible for assistance through SEMA and FEMA in the event of a disaster.
Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden says all representatives must attend so many meetings.
It was noted there will be four meetings of the planning committee this year.
