The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen approved a street-improvement bid during its meeting on Thursday, May 13.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, City Clerk Michelle Fuehring told aldermen the city had received one bid for the street-improvement project. Mayor Franny Vaught opened the bid from Vance Brothers in the amount of $125,141.55.

Mayor Vaught asked Public Works Superintendent Nate Lea why the bid was so high. Lea explained the city did not do as many of the roads last year due to COVID-19. He explained that with this bid, all the roads in town will be coated for the first time. Aldermen approved the bid.

In other news, Lea said he would like to put replacing the F450 with a new F350 pickup for the street department out for bid. He said he checked, and a new F350 chassis will cost $38,000. He said he would also like to price a new snow plow and sander for the truck. Aldermen gave permission to put the items out for bid.

Aldermen also approved appointments by Mayor Vaught to several boards: Robert Cook and Stacy Robb to a three-year term and Bill Treece to a two-year term on the Cemetery Board; Janet Kirschner, Sheila Treece and Marjorie Treece to a three-year term on the Library Board; Bill Reid and Lewis Bybee to a three-year term on the Planning and Zoning Board; Ashley Rucker to a three-year term on the Park Board; Martha Dohrman and Dana Fuehring to a five-year term on the Recreation Board; Matthew Hutchinson and Dave Hartley to a two-year term and Tina Bright to a one-year term on the Pool Board.
