Edgar “Ed” Werneke, age 95, of rural Nelson, MO, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Private family burial will be held in Millers Chapel Cemetery. Visitation begins 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born April 6, 1926 in Houstonia, MO, he was the son of the late Walter Fredrick Werneke and Thelma Sue Houchen Werneke.  Ed lived in the rural Houstonia and Nelson areas his entire life and was a 1944 graduate of Houstonia High School.  On May 10, 1947 he married Norma Ann Jenkins who preceded him in death on October 17, 2014.  Ed was a lifelong farmer and was always active in his community.  He served on the Millers Chapel Cemetery Board and the Blackwater 100 School Board.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include four children: Larry Werneke and wife Marty of Warrensburg, Bill Werneke and wife Sherry of rural Nelson, Nancy Anderson and husband Chris of Wichita, KS and Linda Edwards and husband Barry of Lenexa, KS; nine grandchildren: Scott Werneke, Mike Werneke, Bobby Werneke and wife Sara, Jeremy Werneke and wife Rochelle, Adrianna Werneke, Sydney Sinor and husband Jordan, Madison Boyer, Josh Edwards and wife Jamie, and Jacob Edwards and fiancé Heather Offutt; seven great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Charles, and Douglas Werneke, in infancy.
