As pandemic restrictions loosen around the state, Memorial Day highway traffic on Missouri roadways is expected to be heavier this year than last.

With the heavy holiday weekend traffic, the Missouri Department of Transportation will not have work zones with routine lane closures beginning at noon on Friday, May 28, through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.

Some of the major work zones with permanent lane closures will remain in place for the holiday weekend.

In the KMMO listening area, that includes:
• U.S. Highway 40 in Cooper County: Rehabilitation of the Missouri River Bridge at Boonville. Highway 40 will be open to traffic throughout the project, but there will be various lane closures. Construction of the project will take approximately three months. The Katy Trail will temporarily be closed daily for up to one week during the project for guardrail replacement on the north end of the bridge.
