Two years ago, the Marshall High School baseball team attended a spring camp in Florida, and plans were made to return to the camp last year and this year.
In 2020, the trip was approved, funds were raised and the registration fee was paid. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the trip was canceled; but the team was only reimbursed one-half of its registration fee. MHS baseball coaches were extended credit by the organization to be used in the following two years. Athletic Director Kristen Niemeyer and head coach Paul Alberson decided it was not possible to return this past season.
During the meeting of the Marshall School Board this week, the board was asked to approve the team attending the training camp in 2022 to take advantage of the credit that was extended to the program.
The board unanimously approved the trip.
Plans can now be made. The team is scheduled to leave after school on March 16, which is the beginning of Spring Break, and return to Marshall on March 24. With this schedule, players will only miss one-and-a-half days of school.
