Vincil Lloyd Butner, 90, of rural Marshall, died Thursday, May 27, 2021 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Smith officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a prayer service beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Graveside services with military rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville.  In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to St. Peter Catholic School in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral home.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born May 26, 1931 in Anabel, MO, he was the son of the late Ray Butner and Blanche Hill Butner.  On September 22, 1949 he married Mary Elizabeth Hogan who preceded him in death on September 20, 2008.  Vincil served in the United States Army from June 9, 1949 until he was honorably discharged on November 17, 1952 having attained the rank of sergeant.  Following his discharge Vincil worked as a mechanic until his retirement.  He helped his son, Mark, start Marshall Service Company in 1988 and then moved to Marshall in 1992.  He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  Vincil loved flying.  He started his hobby building remote airplanes and moved on to experimental airplanes.  Some of his remote airplanes are on display at the Nicholas Beasley Museum along with the Flying Flea and a three place glider trainer that he restored for the museum.

Survivors include one brother, Dean Butner; three children: Mark D. Butner (Julie), Ann Butner and Mike Butner (Vicki); daughter-in-law, Nancy Butner; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Vincil was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Butner; daughter, Mary E. Cook; son, Matthew Joseph Butner; brother, Kenneth Butner; and sister, Wilma Aikens.
