In collaboration with Partners in Patriotism with the Chamber of Commerce, Marshall Parks and Recreation has started a program aimed to emphasize the patriotism in Marshall by displaying American flags throughout the park on holidays that relate to the U.S. Military and our veterans.
Marshall Parks and Recreation Director Chad Unterreiner said he began working with the Marshall Chamber about six to eight months ago to get this project going. If you drove through Indian Foothills Park in Marshall on Memorial Day, you saw just the first phase of this project. Unterreiner said there are three phases to this project.
Unterreiner says the flags will be displayed five times throughout the year.
There were 400 flags purchased for this first phase of the project and Unterreiner says he hopes to have the project completed by 20-23.
Unterreiner said there were nearly 350 flags displayed throughout the park on Memorial Day. The flags will be displayed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Patriots Day and Veteran’s Day.
