U.S. Senator Roy Blunt visited several locations in west-central and southwest Missouri- including Marshall- on Thursday, June 3.
Senator Blunt covered several topics- including the COVID-19 crisis and vaccine, broadband, unemployment and unemployment compensation, the gas tax, the Payroll Protection Program and several others- during the gathering with area city, county and business leaders at Jackson’s Event Center.
One of the topics Senator Blunt covered was the current debate in Congress over the proposed funding for America’s crumbling infrastructure. Senator Blunt- a Republican- says the president’s administration wants to call just about anything infrastructure.
Senator Blunt said the other debate involves the 2017 tax policies, which he said were off to a pretty good start until the pandemic hit, and he would hate to see those tax policies changed until they’re really given a chance to work.
The 71-year-old Blunt, who is serving his second term in the Senate after 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, has said he will not run for another term. Prior to his nearly 25 years in the U.S. Congress, Senator Blunt served as Missouri Secretary of State.
