A 20-year-old Brookfield man has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a felony assault charge in Linn County.

Gabriel Michael Donovan was facing multiple felonies following an incident that took place on April 20. According to a Brookfield Police report, officers responded to a report of someone having a gun.

The alleged victim reported that Donovan might have a gun, and that he had been assaulted by Donovan. After viewing video of the incident, Donovan was seen yelling at and swinging a broken bottle at the other man. Donovan could be seen swinging the broken bottle several times attempting to strike the other man in the neck and chest areas.

During a court proceeding on Tuesday, June 8, Donovan waived formal arraignment and pleaded guilty to a felony charge of second degree assault. The State dismissed the felony charge of armed criminal action.

The Court suspended imposition of sentence and placed Donovan on five years supervised probation and ordered him to enter and complete a drug program.
