A 43-year-old Concordia woman who was charged with multiple felonies after a reported incident on March 4, 2020, changed her plea and has been sentenced in Lafayette County.
A police report says an officer responded to a residence to assist medics with an overdosed patient. Central dispatch advised that the caller stated the patient had overdosed on heroin. Melanie Hilbrenner met officers at the front door of the home and took them to the unresponsive man. Officers also reported seeing a loaded AR 15 rifle and large knives throughout the home within reach of a 6-year-old child. They also located drug-related items, as well as several items used to consume the drugs.
Hilbrenner pleaded not guilty on April 19 to felony possession of a controlled substance; two felony charges for endangering the welfare of a child; and a felony for unlawful use of a weapon.
The state opposed dismissing the charges against Hilbrenner on May 17.
As part of a plea deal on June 7, Hilbrenner pleaded guilty to the Child Endangerment charges, and the state dismissed the other charges. The court suspended imposition of sentence and placed Hilbrenner on five years of supervised probation.
